Foreign citizens can be accepted for: studies, post-graduate studies, doctoral studies, habilitation work placements, scientific or specialist work placements, vocational work experience.
Foreign students can study in the day or extra-mural system, including doctoral studies.
On the same principles as those governing Polish citizens the following can undertake studies and participate in academic research and training sessions: foreign citizens with a legally regulated residence status on the territory of the Republic of Poland (e.g. foreign citizens who have been granted the right to settle or who possess refugee status granted in the Republic of Poland); foreign citizens from countries with which the University has signed understandings and agreements; citizens of countries which are member states of the European Union or member states of EFTA or parties to the European Economic Area Agreement.
Citizens of the European Union possessing the financial means to cover the costs of studying can undertake studies on the same principles of application and funding as Polish citizens, i.e. studying in the day system is free, while extra-mural studies are payable but without the right to social grants.
Citizens of other countries can study within the framework of the limits concerning foreign citizens as defined by the University: - as a Polish government scholarship holder or as a scholarship holder from the foreign citizen’s own country; - on the principles of payment as defined by the directive of the Ministry for Science and Higher Education, given the acceptance of the Rector of the University of Gdansk. (Further information can be obtained from the embassies and consulates of the Republic of Poland in the foreign citizen’s own country.)
The principles concerning foreign students undertaking studies, research and work placements are regulated by the Act on Higher Education of 27 July 2005: [Ustawa Prawo o Szkolnictwie Wyższym z dnia 27 lipca 2005 r.] http://ks.sejm.gov.pl/proc4/ustawy/2720_u.htm
